Davidstow wins Danisco Trophy
September 16, 2011Dairy Crest Davidstow has won the industry’s coveted 2011 Danisco Grand Prix Trophy for finest mature Cheddar cheese for an unprecedented eighth time!
The trophy, which is presented to the creamery awarded the most points at leading UK cheese shows, recognises supreme quality of product and has been won by the factory at Davidstow an incredible eight years out of the previous nine.
Perhaps fittingly for such a successful enterprise, the Davidstow creamery is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty near Camelford in Cornwall and has been producing top quality cheese for over 60 years. It is home to the UK's top selling Cheddar cheese, Cathedral City and the award-winning Davidstow brand, found in major retailers throughout the country, is also manufactured there.
Winning the Danisco trophy is a culmination of the creamery's successes achieved throughout the year, highlights of which include …
The Gold Award at the International Cheese Show, Nantwich for Extra Mature Cheddar
The International Cheese Show Gold Award in the Past Masters Class
The Butlers Farmhouse Cheese Award for the Best Novice Cheese Maker
The Sturminster Creamery Cup for the overall winner of Open Classes at the Mid-Somerset show
