Dairy Crest praised by HSE Chair Judith Hackitt CBE
April 16, 2014Dairy Crest's commitment to health and safety has been praised by Chair of the Health and Safety Executive, Judith Hackitt CBE, following a visit to the company's Foston creamery in Derbyshire.
Mrs Hackitt travelled to Foston to meet Mark Allen, Dairy Crest CEO and hear how Dairy Crest's focus on improving health and safety at work has delivered some fantastic results:
- The number of accidents reportable to the Health and Safety Executive has fallen for the fifth consecutive year
- Dairy Crest offers all staff free cholesterol, blood pressure and BMI checks
- By the end of the financial year over 40% of employees had their health checked
- Number of days lost from accidents has fallen for the fifth consecutive year
Mrs Hackitt told the Burton Mail she was very impressed with Dairy Crest's clear approach to health and safety:
“There are technical advances going on all the time. What we were looking at was what health and safety is about. People could get seriously injured so it is right and proper that people are able to go home from work healthy and safe."
Andy Melachrino, Dairy Crest's Group Health and Safety Manager said:
“It’s a combination of having strong leadership and passion. What we are talking about is people’s lives and their families’ lives, so the leadership team is very focussed on this.”
