Frequently Asked Questions
Why do spreads have a cover paper?
+
Cover papers are used to flatten the spread, so it fills the tub evenly. They are also used for promotions or other marketing messages.
Why are you removing the cover paper?
+
Cover papers are the last piece of our spreads packaging which are not recyclable and contribute to 44 tonnes of unnecessary landfill every year. So, for the good of the planet, we are taking them off.
Why are the cover papers not recyclable?
+
Greaseproof paper fibres are bound very tightly together which makes it challenging to recover and reuse the fibres in the recycling process. They are also difficult to separate in waste management due to their size and weight, so they end up in landfill.
Why don’t you change to a recyclable cover paper?
+
Whilst recycling is important for our environment, removing unnecessary packaging is even better, and in this case means 44 tonnes less packaging going to landfill each year.
Without a cover paper, will there be any difference in product quality or freshness?
+
Don’t worry… the cover paper isn’t needed for freshness or hygiene, as the lid does this job all by itself.
Is the cover paper tamper evidence?
+
No, this is perception only. The cover leaf is not tamper evidence.
